Perhaps this question is best answered by Ernest Holmes, the author of The Science of Mind , and the founder of Religious Science , the teaching which is based upon that book.
Ernest Holmes did not create New Thought, nor did he invent the principles taught in the Science of Mind. He simply explored all the great teachings of the ages and found that there was a common thread running through all of them; that the Universe in which we live is essentially of a spiritual nature.
We believe that God is a Loving, Infinite Intelligence, operating in and through all life, never separate from it. We do not conceive of God as some far off entity looking down upon us in judgment. In fact, we do not conceive of God as any sort of entity at all, but rather as the Principle of Life, expressing through each one of us.
As a philosophy, Religious Science presents a practical, down-to-earth way of relating to the nature of the universe and our relationship to It.
As a religion , Religious Science is free of superstition, dogma and outworn concepts. It presents a flexible outlook that holds only to those truths which have been held to be universal.
As a science, Religious Science believe there is a body of knowledge operating in the Universe as Cause and Effect. Our teaching presents a method of using this knowledge, called Spiritual Mind Treatment, which is affirmative prayer elevated to its highest and most effective point.
We are happy to address any questions you might have.
